Gem Silica

Gem silica is a bluish green to greenish blue variety of chalcedony often resembling the color of tropical ocean waters. Like turquoise, Gem slica receives its vivid color from the presence of copper. Other names this stone is often known as are “chrysocolla chalcedony” or “gem silica chrysocolla.”

Gem silica is the most valuable variety of chalcedony and can be more expensive than turquoise. It is rarely seen in jewelry as the stone is rare, costly, and the supply is limited. It is typically found in copper-rich areas, with the most significant deposits being located in Arizona, USA, Mexico, and Peru.

Rare Cotton Candy Agate from Mexico

Set in sterling silver this bracelet is easily adjustable to fit most wrists.

This rare piece of Cotton Candy Agate comes from Mexico. It is a relatively newcomer to the lapidary scene, it has rapidly gained popularity as a distinctive, colorful pink or peach jasper, with light pink and cream colored chalcedony. The white cloud-like breccia is what gives this stone its savory name.

Agate is the name given to numerous varieties of banded Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family. Its name comes from the Achetes River in Sicily, where Agates were first found. Usually banded in layers, or stripes, some varieties have “eye” markings, or specks of color. Called the earth rainbow, the concentric bands of Agate form in nearly every color the earth can produce, including a colorless form.

The agate stone provides strength, emotional stability, and a sense of peace and calm.
